Tomlinson Furniture of High Point, North Carolina introduced its Sophisticate line in the mid-1950s and continued refining it through the following decade — a collection that synthesized Scandinavian modernist clarity with the warmth and material quality of American hardwood production. This extension dining table is a strong representative of the line’s dining output: sculpted concave top edge, banded border detail, warm honey-blonde finish, and four slender tapered legs, all combining into a table of genuine visual distinction and practical versatility.

The sculpted top edge is the design’s most immediately compelling detail. The long sides of the table describe a subtle inward curve — a waisted arc that gives the table a sense of movement and dynamism entirely absent from flat-edged designs. A banded border frames the center field of the top, adding a horizontal element of considered refinement that rewards attention. The warm finish is consistent and luminous. The four tapered legs are slender and elegant, supporting the generous top with a characteristic mid-century lightness.
