Vintage Norwegian Bambi Teak Dining Chairs by Rastad & Relling for Gustav Bahus – Set of 6

This set of six Norwegian Bambi dining chairs is one of those designs that gets better the longer you look at it. Designed through Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor and produced by Gustav Bahus, the chairs combine beautiful sculptural woodworking with an unusually light profile.

The standout feature is the curved teak backrest. Rather than using a conventional straight rail, the Bambi design incorporates a broad, gently shaped wooden back suspended between slender uprights. Tapered legs and thin stretchers continue that visual lightness, while the dark upholstered seats create a simple contrast against the warm wood.

As a complete set, they look especially good around a dining table because the six curved backs create a repeating sculptural line without feeling bulky. They have the warmth and craftsmanship associated with Scandinavian mid-century furniture but are restrained enough to work in a contemporary home.

The Bambi series was developed by the Norwegian design office Rastad & Relling and manufactured by Gustav Bahus, which worked closely with the studio during the mid-century period. These examples are stamped “Made in Norway.”
