Vintage Neoclassical X-Back Side Chair with Striped Upholstered Seat

Classical detailing meets a wonderfully subdued vintage palette in this Louis XVI-style upholstered armchair.

The chair features a tall rectangular upholstered back framed in carved, cream-painted wood. Muted vertical stripes in green, gold, cream, and neutral tones continue across the padded armrests and generously proportioned seat cushion.

The exposed frame provides the chair’s strongest design details. Gently curving arms terminate in carved scroll forms, with foliate ornament extending along the supports. Square rosette blocks mark the corners of the seat before transitioning into four slender tapered and fluted legs.

These architectural details draw from the neoclassical vocabulary of Louis XVI furniture, giving the chair a more structured appearance than the sweeping asymmetry and pronounced curves associated with earlier French styles.
