From an American museum collection, this ten-drawer specimen cabinet is a piece of genuine institutional character. The solid butcher block top — finger-jointed light timber planks — provides a generous working surface above ten shallow felt-lined drawers, each fitted with paired chrome round pulls and individual label holders in a mix of brass-framed and chrome styles. A locking mechanism on the right side secures the full cabinet. Oak-finish veneer drawer fronts and laminate carcass are consistent with American laboratory and museum furniture production of the mid-to-late twentieth century.
The cabinet’s collecting history is embedded in its details — the mixed label holder styles reflecting different periods of institutional use, the felt-lined interiors suited to the careful storage of specimens, documents, or archival materials.
