A commanding and beautifully matched set of six Chippendale-style mahogany dining chair.  The Chippendale style, codified by Thomas Chippendale's landmark 1754 publication and continuously interpreted in quality revival productions ever since, reaches one of its most decoratively ambitious expressions in the pierced splat-back chair form, and this set delivers it with full conviction.

Each chair presents a pierced vase-form splat back with interlocking scroll and acanthus leaf carving, a richly carved serpentine crest rail, acanthus-carved cabriole front legs, and deeply sculpted ball-and-claw feet that anchor the composition with sculptural authority. The carving is consistent and accomplished across all six chairs — from the elaborate open-pierced splat work to the flowing knee carvings and the precisely worked talons of the ball-and-claw feet. A matched set of six in this quality of carving and consistent condition is genuinely uncommon on the secondary market.

The current slip seats are upholstered in a burgundy and sage damask pattern that pairs naturally with the dark mahogany frames and the formal character of the design. 

All six chairs are structurally sound with no maker's markings beyond the Greshville dealer label. The Chippendale style has been produced in quality revival versions from the Victorian era through the mid-20th century; precise period attribution without additional documentation would require hands-on examination, but the decorative quality and set consistency speak for themselves.
