Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen’s HG Systemi for Hansen & Guldborg is among the most accomplished Danish modular wall systems of the 1960s — a design that balances visual authority with genuine functional intelligence. This three-bay configuration spans approximately 106 inches and is fully reconfigurable: four 78-inch steel uprights with faux wood finish anchor the arrangement via regularly spaced peg holes, allowing every shelf and cabinet to be repositioned at any height and in any order across the three bays to suit a different wall, room, or layout entirely.

The component inventory reflects the system’s breadth of purpose. The stereo cabinet — opening from both the top and the front with a purpose-fitted interior — speaks directly to the way the HG Systemi was conceived: not as a generic storage wall but as a considered response to how a household actually functions. One tambour-door cabinet, one glass-front cabinet, two magazine rack shelves, three narrow shelves, two larger shelves, and two light bars complete the three bays. All exterior surfaces are Brazilian rosewood — dramatically swirling and deeply figured — with pale birch interiors throughout.

The Danish Furniture Makers’ Control quality stamp is present on the components, and the original HG Systemi product brochure accompanies the piece. A three-bay reconfigurable system of this material quality and design pedigree, with original documentation intact, is an exceptional find in the Danish mid-century market.
