Pair of Vintage Nichols & Stone Windsor Side Chairs with Cedar Crest College Crest

A distinctive pair of vintage Nichols & Stone collegiate Windsor chairs produced for Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Finished in classic black with restrained gold detailing, each chair features the Cedar Crest College seal prominently displayed across its curved crest rail. The seal incorporates the college’s 1867 founding date and gives the chairs an unmistakable connection to the institution.

Five turned spindles form each open back above a shaped wooden seat. Turned and tapered legs are joined by stretchers and accented with narrow gold-painted rings, carrying the black-and-gold palette throughout the design.

The chairs retain excellent identifying evidence beneath the seats, including impressed Nichols & Stone manufacturer markings and an original yellow factory label. A handwritten notation visible on the label appears to include the date 4/9/62, supporting a circa-1960s attribution.

Their combination of classic American Windsor design and collegiate provenance makes the pair particularly well suited to a library, home office, study, dining area, or Cedar Crest College collection.
