Jean Carzou Original Lithograph — Framed Modernist Figure by a Window

This original lithograph by Jean Carzou depicts a standing figure within an interior built from dense black linework. A tall opening at the left introduces a lighter passage and a distant view, balancing the darker figure on the right. The scene has an intimate, theatrical character, with the subject appearing partly absorbed into the surrounding pattern.

Fine strokes overlap throughout the composition. Diagonal marks form a lattice across the walls, while the floor is described through a loose grid of receding lines. The figure’s silhouette becomes more defined where the marks gather closely together, then opens into lighter passages around the legs and body. This contrast between concentrated drawing and open paper gives the image both depth and movement.

The presentation provides a calm surround for the intricate composition. A broad cream-colored mat separates the image from the slim dark frame, and a narrow gold-tone inner border outlines the artwork. The combination keeps the palette restrained while giving the small scene a more substantial presence on the wall.

A printed statement attached to the back identifies the work as an original lithograph by Carzou, specially created and printed for a publication. The text is presented in French, English, and German.

With its vertical format and overall height of 20.25 inches, the piece works well in a study, beside a bookcase, or above a small accent cabinet. Its modernist style complements Mid-Century Modern furniture, while the black-and-cream palette allows it to sit easily among traditional furnishings or within a mixed collection of framed art.
