The Hickory Chair Company has been making furniture the right way since 1911. Their James River Collection — inspired by the great plantation houses of 18th-century Virginia and in production since 1941 — is widely considered one of the finest examples of American traditional furniture manufacturing. This Model 576 Oval Extension Dining Table is a centerpiece piece from that collection, documented by the original brass “Approved Reproduction” shield tag and factory stencil on the underside.

The top is a study in how traditional craftsmanship elevates a simple material: a rich sunburst mahogany veneer center, contained within a precisely executed crossbanded border of lighter contrasting wood, all finished to a deep, luminous warm tone that only genuine mahogany achieves. Four full Queen Anne cabriole legs of solid mahogany sweep outward to pad feet with the confidence of a form that has been perfected over three centuries of furniture design. The extension mechanism accepts leaves to expand the table for larger gatherings — a practical feature executed with the same quality as the rest of the piece.

This is furniture that was built to be used, passed on, and used again. It seats comfortably at every configuration and works as naturally in a formal dining room as it does at the center of a family kitchen. The provenance is documented, the condition is excellent, and the bones are as good as any dining table you will find at this price point.
