Solid elmwood, iron hardware, mortise and tenon construction — a Chinese provincial cabinet at a practical scale for sideboard, bar, hallway, or bedroom use.

A Chinese provincial elmwood cabinet with iron hardware, dating to the 19th to early 20th century, measuring 35.25 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep, and 27.5 inches tall. The scale reflects the space-conscious design approach of northern Chinese provincial domestic furniture — shallow enough to sit flush against a wall without projecting into a room, wide enough to provide genuine storage and surface utility. At this size the piece works naturally as a bar cabinet, compact sideboard, hallway chest, or generous bedroom accent piece.

The form presents two stacked drawers on the left with iron butterfly pulls and two cabinet doors on the right with interior shelving, the front face dominated by a large circular iron lockplate medallion spanning both doors — a form specific to Chinese provincial furniture that serves simultaneously as lock mechanism and primary decorative device. Bracket base with chamfered top corners. Mortise and tenon construction with exposed peg joinery on the top surface.

The primary material is solid elmwood — the most widely used wood in northern Chinese provincial furniture production, valued for structural strength and dramatic natural figure. The swirling grain, natural knots, and two-tone contrast between heartwood and sapwood zones are visible across all surfaces. The iron hardware carries the dense dark patination of genuine age. No maker identified.
