Antique Federal Style Carved Wood Side Chair with Floral Needlepoint Seat

An elegant antique carved wood side chair in the Federal and American Classical tradition, featuring a sculptural open back, scrolling carved crest, floral rosette details, and a floral needlepoint upholstered seat.

The upper portion of the chair is particularly distinctive. A broad shaped tablet displays pronounced natural wood figuring and is crowned by a scrolling crest carved with foliate decoration. Floral rosettes terminate the ends of the crest, adding a restrained Classical decorative element.

Below, a broad vase-shaped central splat extends toward the seat and is surrounded by generous open space. Long curved outer supports give the back a graceful, continuous silhouette. A bowed front seat rail follows the rounded profile of the upholstered seat.

The cream-colored needlepoint upholstery is centered with a traditional floral bouquet incorporating pink roses, purple blossoms, and green foliage. Combined with the richly toned wood frame, it gives the chair an appealing collected appearance.

A distinctive antique accent chair suitable for a bedroom, entryway, library, dressing area, desk, or traditional interior.
