Antique Adjustable Piano Stool with Glass Ball-and-Claw Feet

The substantial round wooden seat has a gently shaped surface and molded edge, mounted on a traditional screw mechanism that allows the height to be adjusted by turning the seat. Beneath it, four dark-finished turned legs surround a central support, connected by smaller turned stretchers that give the base a dense, sculptural profile.

At the bottom of each leg, a warm gold-tone claw holds a glass ball. It’s a small detail, but one that gives the stool considerably more personality than the typical adjustable piano seat and creates a beautiful contrast with the darker wood above.

The overall form is consistent with piano and organ stools produced around the turn of the 20th century. We’ve left the maker and wood species unattributed rather than guessing where the piece doesn’t give us enough evidence.

Originally designed for piano seating, it would also work beautifully as a vanity stool, occasional seat, or compact antique accent.
